Government systems pose a unique problem set, different from that faced by for-profit business. They are similar, but only in concept, to non-profit corporations in that they are not profit centers.
TUXnology has gained considerable experience in the operations of the State of Nevada Justice System by implementing a replacement for a legacy document exchange and transformation network, removing the Windows portion and substituting a new, reliable and highly-configurable component running on Linux. Thousands of Justice-related documents pass through it every day, from all around the state. Due to their nature, accuracy is critical, and data loss is not acceptable.
To make the network configurable, TUXnology created a database that the State staff used through a Web interface. The database describes the form of the documents that are to be exchanged, their allowable sources and destinations, and the list of authorized agencies. Further, eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is used to control the manner of transformation. Each document type has the notion of a version number and effective date, so that history may be maintained and changes may be coordinated and phased-in.
In the process of conversion to Linux, TUXnology prepared a business justification document and presented it to concerned parties. This was revolutionary and evolutionary step for the State of Nevada.
