Linux powers most of the Web sites on the Internet, and the vast majority of the largest sites. For example, Google, the leading search engine Web site, employs hundreds of thousands of Linux servers in data centers around the world, coupled with their own custom search software. Most of the largest Web hosting companies install Linux on their servers, with Windows as a secondary, albeit more expensive, choice.Webcomputer

TUXnology has created Web sites for several of its clients. Most of these are internal to the organization, although there have been exceptions. Primarily, TUXnology specializes in the ‘back-end’ portion of Web sites. This includes the software that runs on the Linux server to collect data from the user via the Web browser, and the database that stores the data for later retrieval.

In one example, a client had a Web site that was not working, and had been built by an offshore team that could not get the job done. In collaboration with a Web designer, TUXnology created the database and server software from scratch to get the site into production quickly and at minimal cost.
